Prong - Songs from the Black Hole (SPV) ....

It is clear that longtime rockers Prong are far from done cranking out new material that shows promise and progression. Their new album Songs from the Black Hole should be well received by fans as Tommy Victor and the boys deliver ten cover songs containing the formula that has made the band great. There is plenty of energy and aggression for fans to identify with songs like "Doomsday", "Vision Thing", "Goofy's Concern", "Kids of the Black Hole", "The Bars", "Seeing Red", "Don't Want to Know if You're Lonely", "Give Me The Cure", "Banned in D.C.", and "Cortez the Killer" covering great bands such as Discharge, Sisters of Mercy, Butthole Surfers, Adolescents, Black Flag, Killing Joke, Husker Du, Fugazi, Bad Brains, and Neil Young. The crossover element that Prong exhibit on this album have major thrash metal and punk influences that make this album fresh and interesting.

Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts - Blaster (Softdrive) ....

Scott Weiland, the former frontman for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, has released his latest album with new band Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts. Weiland doesn't seem to be able to catch a break as one day before the release guitarist Jeremy Brown died at the age of 34 leaving the band in shock. The new album Blaster doesn't really deliver anything more than Weilands usual dabblings from his solo career, taking an unusual turn of an unexpected glam element. Musically the album and band are good, solid, and nothing to critique, but there is a definite lack of direction in the lyrics and Weilands delivery of them, a lack of storytelling and the means to hook the listener. Songs include"Modzilla", "Way She Moves", "Hotel Rio", "Amethyst", "White Lightning", "Blue Eyes", "Bleed Out", "Youth Quake", "Beach Pop", "Parachute", "20th Century Boy", and "Circles". THe album also includes a cover of David Bowie’s “The Jean Genie” that appears as a bonus track.
