Danzig - Ancient Evil (Evillive) ....

I was excited to hear the new Danzig album Skeletons, which is a collection of cover songs from bands including Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Black Sabbath, The Litters, The Troggs, The Rascals, The Everly Brothers, and Elvis Presley. Glenn Danzig is a cultural icon known from bands such as The Misfits, and Samhain, his voice is unique and unmistakable. Skeletons explores the depths of his mind to bring forth these cover songs which heclaims were most influential in his career. Overall the album is pretty good, although I was less impressed with his renditions of Black Sabbath's "NIB" and Aerosmith's "Lord of the Thighs". I most enjoyed his rendition of the 60's biker theme songs "Devil's Angels" and "Satan's Sadists". Fans of Danzig will like this album and those that don't will at least accept it for what it is. It is worth a listen, judge for yourself.

Vision of Disorder- Razed to the Ground (Candlelight) ....

Vision of Disorder deliver an impressive album titled Razed to the Ground. The recording production is great, the guitars are heavy, in your face, and it all comes blasting at you. Vocalist Tim Williams commented "We are very excited for our fans to hear this record. We believe it offers everything VOD does well. I am especially excited about the growth of the songs; the brutality, the melody, and the overall sound of the record." The riffs on this album are impressive and Tim Williams delivers with his ability to sing brutal hardcore and melodic vocals. “Heart Of Darkness” comes tearing out at you from the start, and these guys are pissed, plain and simple. Fierce, pummeling drums and razor-sharp guitar riffs go straight for your jugular. “Hours In Chaos” brings forth more melody, but is no less brutal. Other notable songs I enjoyed were "Craving", Cut My Teeth", "Electric Sky", and "Nightcrawler". Vision of Disorder have been slowly gaining popularity over almost two decades now. This album may be their defiing pinnacle that will change.things.

Tombstones - Vargariis (Soul Seller) ....

Scandanavian Doom Metal band Tombstones have released the new album Vargariis which is filled with downtuned doom laden songs. They seem to have improved some since their 2013 release titled Red Skies and Dead Eyes. The songs are long averaging about ten minutes each and tis new album Vargariis contains just six songs : 1. Barren Fields; 2. And When The Heathen Strive, Vargariis Rise; 3. Oceans Of Consciousness; 4. The Dark High; 5. Underneath The Earth; and 6. Pyre Of The Cloth. If you have never heard the band before you might think the sound is remeniscent of early Black Sabbath with long drawn out repetitious riffs usually found in doom metal. The bottom end in this recording production is brutal, prepare to vibrate off your chair. Notable songs were "Barren Fields" and "Oceans of Consciousness".
